These are my two backgammon tips for you:
First -
If you are slow during a backgammon competition, don't abandon a strategic supporting point. It would be smarter to wait for a suitable throw, and it might even (hopefully not) be your only chance to win.
Second -
If you're having problems deciding what move to play - don't think and hit! A hit is a good choice in many cases, especially if you hit into your opponent’s most vulnerable point - at his home.

Hope you'll find these two backgammon tips usefull.
I think about making this a routine.

I assume that most of play65's backgammon players don't check play65's site too often, if at all. Once you had installed its backgammon software you don't do much except playing, right?
But i'd like to check things up and not to rely upon getting newsletters update, so once in a while I take my leap to the site, to see what's going on.

Israeli Backgammon Players are Fun Restricted
Play65's Israeli players can no longer play backgammon for real money. They can still use the backgammon game platform play65 is offering them but this is only for fun games. Reliable sources around the web say the reason behind this distressing news is that Israeli authorities came to the conclusion that playing backgammon for money is illegal since it falls under the definition of gambling. I find it ridiculous since backgammon is primarily a game of skill and as such I don't understand how anyone can aompare it to gambling games like slot machine for example. I hope Play65's management will keep on fighting this, so we can all enjoy some good backgammon game with the Israeli players.

Play65 Constantly Upgrades Itself
Play65's site keeps on upgrading itself for the benefit of its players and other visitors. Not too long ago it added a backgammon articles page, listing some great articles (written by play65's players!!!) on backgammon strategies, and now there's a new page of "Backgammon Resources" with some of the most important websites on this topic.

Play65 Christmas Backgammon Tournament

Last Friday, December 22nd, was a happy day for 64 backgammon players - all of them are members of play65 online backgammon room.
The reason is simple:

They all won the great Backgammon Tournament play65 ran especially for Christmas, got a money prize of 12,500$ and went out to the snow looking for presents to their friends, their family and I guess also for themselves.

12,500$...mmm...

Why bullshit? ‘Cause none of the following blogs has any connection to backgammon, excluding the fact that the people who decided to run them thought only on promoting their backgammon sites. All the posts are nothing but big-mumble, a collection of un-related words with “backgammon keywords” and “backgammon links” in it.
Take a look and you’ll see it for yourself.

So what is the story behind these bullshit backgammon blogs?
As far as I can think of, the people behind these blogs are into SEO and Online Marketing while the people who actually run them are simply non-human. It looks like all posts were written by a machine.
Sad but true.
Too bad people (or is it “machines”?!) are taking advantage of free blogging sources like blogger, misusing them just to satisfy their narrow interests…

Did you hear the astonishing news? there is going to be a so-called "Miss Gammon 2007" competition in which the winner will be a girl with a hot look and great gaming skills.
the prize: modeling contract and a trip to the Bahamas plus direct entry to the "backgammon million" event.
and I say - what the heck? it's not that I'm not in favor of girls or women (mmm...little girls moving checkers around, rolling a dice...) playing backgammon, I believe there are plenty of women that are great backgammon players but still...
what will be next?
we'll look for the most hairy cat or silent fish with high gaming skill? a child who can poo and play backgammon at the same time? a blind man who can play backgammon with open eyes?

if you have any respect for yourselves, girls, I advise you to give up this modeling contract and go only for the big backgammon tournament.

I've been saying for years now that backgammon is the hottest game on earth! that's why it didn't come to me as a surprise when i had heard the fact that now you can not only play it online but also watch it on TV!
yea, right! yohooo!

Who do we need to thank for?

because this is the TV channel responsible for this series of programmes dedicated to the game of backgammon which are featuring two backgammon tournaments from the World Series of Backgammon.
We're talking about eight programmes and features play from tournaments that take place at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes, France.

How to play backgammon

Backgammon Objective
The objective of backgammon is to bring all your checkers, white or black, into your own home board so that you can begin to remove them from the board (the bear-off game phase). The winner of the game is the first player to bear off all of his checkers.

Starting to play
To start the game of Backgammon each player throws a single die and the player that rolls the highest number plays first. If equal numbers come up, then both players keep rolling their die until they get distinct numbers.
Commonly, the first player uses the joint numbers on the already-thrown dice to start, although this rule is not harshly followed today. After the initial turn, the players alternate turns and roll two dice each time.
In matches, the winner of the last game plays first in the next Backgammon game.

Moving the Checkers

The roll of the dice indicates how many points, or pips (a unit of distance on a backgammon board) the player is to move his checkers. Backgammon checkers can by no means move backwards, they only move forwards towards their own home boards, meaning the white and black pieces are always moving in opposite directions around the backgammon board.
There are few rules considering the movement of checkers:
• The numbers on the two dice represent separate moves. For instance, if a player rolls 4 and 2, he may move one checker four spaces to an open point and another checker two spaces to an open point, or he may move the one checker a total of six spaces to an open point.
• A checker can be moved to any point that is vacant, to one that is occupied by your own checkers or to a point that has no more then one of your enemy's checkers on it. In other words, two or more checkers that are occupied by your opponent's are considered a block for you.
• If you roll the dice and the same number comes up (a double rolling), you can move the pieces twice as many times. For example, with a role of 2-2, you may move 2 points 4 times in any given combination (one piece 8 points, two pieces 4 points each, one piece 6 points and the other 2, two pieces 2 points and a third piece of 4 points, four pieces 2 points each ). The more doubles one player rolls the more are his chances of winning the game.

Hitting a blot
A single checker on a point is known as a blot and may be attacked by your opponent. Checkers of different colors may not inhabit the same point. Thus, a blot is removed by landing on it with one of the opponent pieces, which is also named a hit. The blot is taken off the board and moved to the bar, and this stays out of play until the checker entered in your opponent’s inner board. You can re-enter your checker from the bar only if one of the numbers appear on the rolled dice match a point which is not occupied by two or more of your opponent's checkers. If none of the points is open, the player loses his roll. If a player is capable of entering several but not all of his checkers, he is obliged to enter as many as he can and then give up the rest of his turn.

Bearing off
Bearing off is the ultimate stage of the backgammon game – commencing to remove your pieces from the backgammon home board. In order to start this action all of your 15 checkers should made it to the home board. The same as with normal moves, you bear off according to the roll of the dice, always from the highest occupied point in your home table. During the bear off process there might be a situation when there is no checker on the point indicated by the roll. In this situation the player must make a legal move by using a checker on a higher point. If there aren’t any checkers on higher points, the player is allowed to remove a checker from his highest occupied point. However, you have no obligation of bearing off if you have another legal move to make.

Winning the Game of Backgammon
The winner of the game is the first player to bear off all his checkers. If your rival has not been able to bear off neither of his checkers you score a gammon, or double victory, which counts twice a normal win. Triple victory or a backgammon, counts three times a normal win and is scored when your opponent hasn't succeeded in bearing off any of his checkers and still has checkers on the bar or in the winner's home board.
